Refinements

#1 Post by fred »

Hello all! I had my refinement impressions taken this week and I have a major concern. When the dental assistant took my bottom impressions, they were so tight that when she tried to remove the impression tray, she punched me in the face, which is good because I knew they were a perfect fit.
When she took the top impressions, I think she was a little worried about punching me in the face again, and they were so loose that they literally almost fell out of mouth. I'm worried that the refinement trays will not fit properly on the top.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Maybe I should be more specific.....
When they take the impressions of your teeth, the gooky stuff is supposed to form a suction because there is no space between your teeth and the mold.
When the DA took my upper impressions, there was no suction when she removed the mold. This leads me to believe they were not fitted properly, thus my refinement trays will not fit properly.
Thanks for any help or advice you can give me :D

I thought they'd be able to tell right then and there if the impressions were good. If they were bad I don't think the teeth impressions would be out of place, but rather they would not capture the shapes of the teeth correctly. The first step when they send them to Invisalign is to make a computer model of your teeth, so if the impressions are bad, then you'll probably know pretty quickly. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah you're probably right. I know that I can be quite paranoid at times. Thanks for your response John37.

I am not sure that "hard to get off" means it's always a good impression. I was worried about it myself, but my moulds were nicely stuck on my teeth.

While they were taking my bottom impressions i had to keep gulping and was trying desperately hard not to nudge the tray, so the impressions would be as perfect as possible. Hopefully i didn't nudge it too many times and i'll get a nice fitting.

Oh good, I'm glad everything is okay. I was going to ask if your top teeth are perhaps straighter than the bottom? When I got my original impressions taken, the top ones came out more easily, and I think it was because there is more space between those teeth and they are straighter.... :)
Initial set: 31 upper / 17 lower
1st refinement: 14 upper / 10 lower
2nd refinement: 10 upper / 5 lower

Nope...my bottom teeth are straighter. I think it was the way that the dental assistant took the molds. Anyway, all's well that ends well.
