how long for genio dressing to come off?

I had BSSO and genio yesterday and all sorts of tape was placed on my chin for support. They told me it would come off on its own, I think. It's all a blur... I was really drugged out when they were trying to give my discharge instructions. I don't want to call the doc's office t ask cuz I don't thing they'd understand me.
For those that had sliding genioplasty, how long did you leave the chin dressing on?

I had mine on for at least 10 days, did have it changed at visits. Seemed too long to me and I ended up with an allergic reaction, totally red chin. Then I needed medicine for the horrible itch. Doctors vary and some want the silly jaw bra on for a long time. I just don't understand it. There is probably a photo here somewhere with my awful red chin. Of course everybody doesn't get that.

48 hours- it was taken off by my surgeons before i left the hospital and they even helped get the stuff, or most of it off...so happy when it came off, it was grosssssss!

OK, I'm sort of intrigued. What kind of support is the tape/chin dressing for? I didn't realize a sliding genio really needed much support.

my doctor told me i could take it off 3 days after surgery. he said i could do it myself, but it took me like an hour bc it really sticks to your face good! lol and if your partially numb like i was it hurts alil peeling it off, like a badaid. but just go slow and take your time. oh! i also took a wet q-tip and kept rubbing it along the part i was pulling up, that way it doesnt hurt as bad. hope i helped.

Thanks for the replies. Wow, lots of variation. Luckily I found the discharge instructions buried in my belongings bag...they said to take it off in 5 days. They even gave me special adhesive remover.

Mine looked like this and I had it on for a week. A genio needs support because you can bump it out of place, or even knock-it lopp-sided in your sleep if you're not careful. At least before the bone has had time to bond a little bit.

I spent two nights in the hospital after upper/lower/genio. Mine was taken off by the surgeon when he visited before I was discharged. It did leave quite a sticky mess but they got it off.

Ah MEMORIES,MEMORIES,MEMORIES..
i had the dressing removed by a young man( 18-or 19 )who decided to do the slowly,slowly but pulling as had as you can approach.Well i winced for all but 2 minutes until i screamed-i have never felt pain like it in all my life...The elderly lady next to me was so concerned she rung her buzzer as she thought he was being too rough.On the last bit he did it quicker which was way better-Think taking of a plaster that is stuck solid.My face was red and yellow(the mess it left behind)for agood 2 days after..
But dont worry you will be taking it off yourself so you can judge how much pressure to apply...
