Hey guys,
Just a few things i was hoping could be cleared up.
First, i was wondering what damage i could be doing by doing some soft chewing too early on after a bi-max osteotomy? it's been just over 2 weeks and for the last 2 days i've been chewing some soft bread and fish and other things. what damage is there if it doesn't hurt. i wear elastics at the moment too.
Second......the feeling in a small area is really annoying me. it's like the right half of my lip and underneath to the chin in a square shape. no physical feeling is there but the sensation is driving me CRAZY!!! it actually hurts a lil. the surgeon said that it was definately NOT cut. but stretched and bruised a lil. will the feeling come back???? i am really hoping that it does.....cos i would rather the nerve had of been cut compared to this crappy sensation.
for the record...i also had the operation to expand the upper jaw and utulise the bracket that you use the key to turn, and had my wisdom teeth out during the same operation back in october 2005....and have had braces since then. they should be coming off in about 6 months. Also, i had to have a tooth exposed. my left upper canine decided to grow dead centre of my pallet. a 5mm x 5mm x 5mm cube had to be cut out to expose the tooth. the tooth dirctly next to right front tooth never had an adult tooth, so that was pulled as was the other one and the canines now sit where they should be.
I am 22 years old and have been through a hell of a lot with all these teeth/jaw issues
any help would be great

Hi, Dbolface. Let's see if I can give you some answers.
1) Follow your surgeon's advice on chewing. If you are not sure, call the office and ask.
2) That annoying feeling is a good sign, as it means that the nerves are regenerating. Every time you feel it, take a deep breath, and thank your body for healing itself!
Take care of yourself, and make sure to get plenty of rest, good nutrition, and hydration. Light exercise (walking, for instance) will aid with your healing and swelling.
Be well, and at peace,
Phil

I echo everyone elses' sentiments: do whatever your surgeon says is okay.
I was on soft chew (pastas, fish, pancakes, etc) on day 10 but I've seen people on here who haven't been put on soft food diet until six weeks. It all depends on what you've had done and how your surgeon does things.
My nerve was stretched during surgery too and I'm still getting those annoying sensations (10 weeks out). Good signs!
