29/M Newbie

#1 Post by Traffic »

So last night I was getting real nervous, to the point that I was thinking of excuses on how to get out of this. My teeth are not terrible, but they have been bothering me (from an asthetic viewpoint) for many years now. Being a 29 year old guy, getting braces was the last thing I wanted, for a number of obvious and not so obvious reasons.

But anyway, I fortunately found this board and stayed up from 1AM to about 4:30 AM reading it. After seeing that I was far from alone, although it seems females are the majority, I decided to go through with it.

As of 11AM this morning I am a ceramic/metal mouth. So far my mom loves them, and that's all that counts, right? :D

Thanks to the board for helping me go through with this, so far it;s not so bad.

I know 24 months from now I'll be happy as pig in ... er... slop. :?

Cool username. Congrats on the braceface. I had a similar experience when I discovered this place.

Hey Traffic, welcome. You did what I did - spend most of the night up reading comments by those already in braces. It really helped me to know what to expect and what questions to ask. Hope your journey goes well - and yes, it is always nice when Mom's approve of what we do. :D

Congrats, Traffic, on getting braces. I have ceramic on the upper 4 teeth, and metal lowers. The ceramics are really good, and look very trendy/modern, and not as visible as metal. Time will go quick, and at the end of it, you'll be glad you decided to have ortho treatment. :)

Thanks. So far so good. I've already gone out on the town with some of my friends and none of even noticed. I've only told a few of my close friends about it and so far everyone has been really cool.

I'm glad I have good friends.

I figure this will hurt my chances of picking up girls, but who knows, mabey I'll find girl who finds braces sexy?

One can hope, right?

It's always nice to have good friends, and hey I have metal and I'm out on the town quite frequently, Getting nothing but encouragement, and actually I find more people that I talk to now, Have either had them before or really still want them, I've even talked a co-worker into getting them lol_spokesperson for braces_ haha not.. Actually I encouraged her a-lot she is a little older than me, and she really could use the confidence we'll all have after It's all over. ttyl!

Hi Traffic,
I too read the messages the night before I got my braces. I've got ceramics on top and metal on bottom. I'm 27 Some people say that they can' t notice them.
Some of my friends have said they have enhanced my lips and look great. Even my sister said she'd get braces just to have bigger lips. Maybe you'll find someone that has a lip fetish (lol)

Hi,

I was scared about getting them too (I am 24, 25 on 3/28 )! I read this site the ENTIRE week before I got them. I have found this site to be informative, helpful and supportive. The people are GREAT!!! Welcome and I hope you get to meet lots of new and interesting people. Good luck with the braces!

Hi Traffic,
Congrats on getting your braces! :D I just turned 29 and will be getting my braces on April 7th, and I know how you feel about being 29 and being in braces for the first time. This website is such a tremendous help, there's so much information on it that's useful for a first timer. I just wanted to say I think you took the right step and good luck!
