Power chains

#1 Post by SandraDee »

Hi everyone-Haven't posted for a while, but will bring you up to date on my progress...had lower ibraces put on July 22nd, and Uppers put in Dec. 30th-then two extracations in February, and March 5th, top wire was put in. I went for my monthly visit and he put a power chain in on the top-has anyone had any experience with power chains?
My teeth on the bottom moved very quickly, with no big issues. HOWEVER...the top seems to be a different story. :( I have crowding with the front six teeth, but my two front teeth were always straight. Now one is pushed out farther then the other, making them uneven--I thought the periods of straightening would continuously improve, not get worse!! Yikes-if anyone can provide me their experience with stages of straightening and power chains, I would REALLY appreciate it!!

Hi SandraDee -- Sorry, but what are power chains?

I had/have the same experience as you with my one of front teeth. Apparently, this is part of the whole process, but I do have to say that my ortho was able to make a small tweak to the wire to make it less pronounced.

I have been wearing ibraces for about 8 months on the top and 7 on the bottom. My top lateral incisors were the teeth that were crooked and I had a bite that was wearing away from the front teeth. On the bottom, I had one crooked tooth but the rest were straight.

Things are definitely working for the better although I haven't been upgraded to a thicker wire on the top or bottom -- probably my next visit in May.

Asthetically speaking, it's still not ideal, but then again, my crooked and front short(er) teeth weren't that attractive.
