Hey guys,
I am currently about 6 days post-op, and I constantly feel like throwing up. I have no appetite, but I feel like I have to eat food with the medicine or else I'll feel worse. Did anyone else experience this? And is there anything specific I can do to feel better? Maybe I'm just tired of mush.
Thanks,
Jamie

I had some nausea up to 10 days (am now 12 days post op) but not too bad. The worst was with all the sweet yucky stuff - antibiotics and supplements, just thinking about taking them made me feel sick . Also there is some "leakage" in the early days and that is not great for your tummy.
Could you cut your pain killers? Basic analgesia, anti inflammatories and cold pads should be enough. You are right about diet, my nausea was less when I ate more normally, little and often. Good luck.

If you are throwing up every day--and you are taking your meds with food-- you should tell the surgeon and ask about changing to different meds. Some antibiotics disagree with some people--the same with the pain meds. Do this as soon as you can--there is no point to suffering needlessly. I hope you feel better soon.
Yes, it sounds like it could be the antibiotics or the painkillers. I had to take medication for 5 days after my op. I stopped taking the codeine completely after a couple of days, but continued to take the antibiotics - Metronidazole - for the full 5 days. Felt nauseous pretty much constantly and was sick a couple of times too - horrible. I agree with PJ, it might be worth talking to your surgeon to see if you can change the medication.

I felt very ill for the first couple days after lower jaw surgery. My surgeon wrote me a prescription for an anti-nausea pill called Promethazine and he said I could stop taking the liquid antibiotics. This pill took away the nausea and I felt alot better. My surgeon told me that I should of told him sooner about feeling sick but I thought nausea was just part of the fun of jaw surgery.
