sensitive teeth

#1 Post by catalina »

Ηello,

a week ago i got my braces and now my teeth do not hurt but they feel very sensitive, not very strong and a little loose. i dont know how i can describe this exactly.

its weird cause they dont hurt anymore but very are very sensitive when i use them, especially the 6 front teeth.

The next adjustment is 2 weeks and i am not sure if they will feel normal by that time..

Is this normal?

I have the same thing at the moment. I just had my second adjustment this past Wednesday, and while my teeth don't hurt when I'm just sitting when I try to bite into something I sure can feel it. Before this adjustment the sensitivity was mostly gone about a week ahead of it. My adjustments are 4 weeks apart right now.

Very normal. Can take upto two weeks to settle down after an adjustment. Be prepared for it to feel like that throughout your treatment time after adjustments, including clicking and wiggling teeth :D It's all part of the process.

I've had mine for 3 weeks now and felt the same thing. I was beginning to get concerned, especially because it felt like my teeth moved if I accidentally hit them together or bit down wrong. I was finally able to bite with my front teeth 2 days ago! They are starting to feel less sensitive overall but there are teeth here and there that feel more sensitive from one day to the next.

I'm just glad my first adjustment isn't until July 22nd. So, that give me just over a month of good biting! :D

CONGRATS! All very normal, get use to it because your teeth will be like that throughout your treatment!

My teeth hurt after adjustments for up to several weeks but after that they go back to normal. Flossing helps , that and soft foods.

Hi,

Thank you very much!

My teeth feel better now but still sensitive and a little loose.

I have a new question now, when the ortho put the braces on me he told me to come back for an adjustment in 3 weeks to put a new stronger wire.

Do you think it is early since i am feeling that way?
The teeth have to feel normal when we go for an adjustment?

It is weird cause i see from others posts that the adjustments are 4,6 weeks or even longer..i am confused

Any advice appreciated :)

I'm 5 days into my braces and my first adjustment is also in 3 weeks - not sure if I get a new wire or not (I hope so!). From my understanding I don't think that the teeth have to feel like normal before an adjustment. The loose feeling is because the teeth are detaching from the ligaments so that they can move - so they are indeed loose. And once they start moving, the ortho wants to keep them moving. I'm betting that since we're both new in braces that the movements will feel more dramatic at first (in my case they should be since I have gaps and spaces that need filling).

Every Ortho is different in their approach to adjustment times. You may or may not get a stronger wire. If the wire you have now is still"active" or moving your teeth they will not change it because it is still working towards the Ortho's goal. I'm about 11 weeks in and still have sore, loose, wiggly teeth, but it does vary and jumps around in my mouth from tooth to tooth. I was told by the Ortho assistant that if my teeth are not this way, then nothing is happening! Hang in there and don't be in a rush for an adjustment, I've had 2 and they weren't pleasant!

My teeth felt "weak" like that at first but they feel strong now! lol. I'm three (almost 4) months in. My teeth are really sensitive to cold though, and today I had a cold turkey sandwich, and some of the cold meat hit my tooth... Ow! >.o
