Class 3 elastics for overbite

#1 Post by Janicebaby »

I just got elastics today. It goes from my upper last molar to my lower canine (I think that's what it's called).

I have an overbite, and thought that I would have class 2 elastics, where it would attach to my upper canine to my lower molar. Did my ortho position the elastics wrong?

Will you be having surgery?

I have an underbite and am wearing class 2 elastics to make the underbite worse (and it has) while preparing for surgery.

If you are not a surgical case, then I'd probably be asking the ortho why you have class 3 (which is definitely what you have) for an overbite.

No, I will not be having surgery.

The only reason I can come up with for the class 3 elastics for me right now is probably because I still have some space on my uppers that need to be closed, but if my ortho went ahead and started closing those gaps, I would have an underbite, so my guess is, he wants to pull back my lowers first, then proceed to close the gaps on my uppers.

That would make sense.
