Chewing gum with invisalign

#1 Post by chelle »

I'm beginning invisalign treatment tomorrow afternoon, and was wondering if anyone has advice on this. I just quit smoking about three months ago, and chew quite a bit of gum as a result. I asked my Dentist if I could chew gum with the aligners in, and he said yes, as long as I can find a gum that doesn't stick to or pull on them. Has anyone else had experience with this? Is there a particular brand of gum that's better to chew with aligners in? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Don't know which is the best gum brand to chew with invisalign in but I never dared to do it. I only do mints with the trays in.

Anything that requires me to chew, I take off the trays first.

I wouldn't even try it! Gum would stick. what a nightmare to clean off. The invisalign instructions say no gum for this reason, although you could pop trays out to chew.

my dentist has given me 'chewies' to help bed the trays firmly; they are like little white squashy plastic tubes, so you could try these?

I really can't imagine gum being very satisfying with invisalign in.

I probably wouldn't even try it, considering how gum gets stuck to plastic.

Although, if you are going to try it, make sure to do so right before switching aligners. That way if it's a complete disaster, you can just toss it out instead of trying to clean every tiny crevice of your aligner.

Report back and tell us how it goes!

I tried some really standard gum and it did not work at all! It just kept pulling off the retainers. Maybe a soft fruity bubblegum would work? Or maybe that would be too sticky :)

Gum

I wish I would of read this post sooner but I just joined this website. "Stride" gum works awesome with invisaline! It doesn't stick to the aligners at all. I chew gum all the time. I've had invisalign for about 8 months now. It took about a week to get used to chewing gum with the trays in my mouth though. Anyways, I hope this post helps all fellow gum chewers.
