And the braced are on!

#1 Post by amy »

So I was braced today finally. And wow is it a huge change!

I went in for a cleaning this morning and then braces this afternoon. My teeth were a little sensitive but nothing hurt too bad until they started threading the arch wire. Wow! I have a thicker Damon wire on top to correct my bite and the hygienist was literally grunting because she was pulling so hard. I had to ask her to stop a few times because it honestly felt like she was pulling out my teeth.

Now I have clear braces on top and metal braces on bottom and my mouth feels pounds heavier and a lot more cumbersome. I'm 26 and was informed braces make me look younger. Hmm not sure if that's a pro or con.

My teeth are definitely sore and aching even with ibprofuen. I was told to chew sugar free gum as much as possible but I wasn't able to much because my teeth were already too sore from all the pulling to thread the arch wire.

Here's hoping my teeth start to feel better soon. [/img]

Congratulations!
It will be rough for the first couple of weeks but after that, it is a piece of cake!

Congratulations Amy...it takes about 5 or 6 days...then the tenderness in your mouth gets alot better. I would probably steer clear of any kind of gum if I were you....sugar free or the other kind.

Just think how beautiful you will be when it is all over. :-)

So far I haven't really eaten anything. I think the achiness along with the ibprofuen have taken away a lot of my appetite. I've heard that chewing does help the blood to circulate and ease tenderness but my teeth hurt to even look at right now, so I'm bypassing the gum for the moment.

So far I've been sticking to cold things to help ease the general tenderness of my entire mouth. Ice cream and milkshakes and even putting ice packs on my mouth so I could get to sleep last night.

I know it will be worth it, but man do I wish I had just done with when I was a kid!

Hi, Just to let you know that the aching will get better every day - just hang in there! I got my braces 2 weeks ago, and the first 3 days were pretty bad when i tried to eat - but I forced myself to keep chewing and i really think that helped the pain to ease quicker. After those first few days, I was much better and can now eat everything pretty normally again. I havent needed wax at all, there was a bit of soreness inside my lower lip when i talked initially, but that has gone too now.

You will feel better soon, and soon you will notice that your teeth are moving, and that makes it all worthwhile!

Congrats! I'm 2 weeks in now and I have to say the tenderness was a lot better after a few days. I felt like I lost a boxing match at first but now...just a little tooth pain that's barely noticeable unless I'm biting down. I'm even back to regular food, just have to cut it up and deal with the fact that everything gets caught in the brackets (really curbing what I'm willing to eat just because of the clean up time).

I hope it gets better for you soon. I had some soreness for about the first week, but I also had a lower front tooth extracted the day before I got my braces on St. Patrick's Day.
