So I have just come back from holidays where I was grazing on food all day and tended to not wear my retainer as much as I should. Anyway, I am TRYING to get back into the habit of eat, put retainer back in. But I hate putting it back in dirty and I am hardly ever home to brush after meals, and I am still grazing a lot.
So anyway I looked in the mirror and noticed one of my teeth were out of place, so I quickly put it back in, and about 20 minutes later ran my tongue along it and its cracked!
So, do you think I broke it, or do you think it was just gonna go? They gave me a spare bottom retainer, so all is not lost... And I have an appointment in 3 weeks, so I will get another spare one made then. But I guess this is my wake up call. Not wearing it is gonna cost me money!
Anyone had one re-made before? How much do they cost??? I have the invisible plastic ones.
I broke my retainer!!! Do you think its from not wearing it?

How long has it been since you got your braces off?
Were you wearing your retainer regularly before you took a break?
I don't think the retainer broke because it was too tight. It probably broke because you weren't wearing it and the teeth could have moved from the original position when the retainer was made.
My co-worker has had her braces off for years, she still wears her retainer on the weekends mainly. If she stops wearing it for a while, when she finally wears it again, she can tell her teeth have moved.
Retainers are meant to be worn forever....and like you said, to replace them can be very costly!
