waterpik flosser problem

#1 Post by sadpanda »

I just got a Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser and when I put water into the resevoir, water comes through the handle and out the tip even when the unit is turned off. Is that supposed to happen or is it defective?

Also...I've read the directions, but I'm obviously not very good at using the thing because I've sprayed water all over and can't seem to just let the water fall out of my mouth into the sink...instead I keep spitting it out. Any advice?

Before you return your Waterpik check to make sure that when you insert your tip into the handpiece you hear a click sound.

I would suggest lowering the pressure all the way down to 2 or 3 until you can get the hang of using your Waterpik. I did that for awhile and also developed some techniques that you might find helpful. I pretend that I am at the dentist when they put that suction thingy in my mouth. I am in charge of holding it lightly in my mouth. That is the same thing I do with my Waterpik. I just let the water and whatever comes out with it to just dribble out. I also keep pretty close to the drain by propping my elbows on the sink. This helps keeps the spraying in check.

Good luck and I hope this helps. I love my Waterpik and couldn't imagine living without one.

The first time I used mine, I soaked my bathroom. I have been getting better at using my Waterpik, but since I have the cordless version, I just use it in the shower and don't worry about the waterspray! I have some sort of mental block that keeps me from being able to keep my lips together when using it.

It does take getting used to though. Oh, and using the less-pressured tip too!
