Consultation is set!

#1 Post by NervousNewbie »

Hello all, newbie here.

I'm a 25 year old female who is ready to make a change. I've read just about everything I can find about linguals and feel that for my specific situation that they are the best solution for me. I do work in an office and honestly, traditional braces just won't work for me, and I don't think Invisalign is going to be an option for my situation.

My consultation is September 9. It took a ton of guts for me to even pick up the phone (isn't that dumb?). I'm concerned about a few things as far as my consultation, the first of which is that I worry about the orthodontist telling me that he cannot help me, or that he can't do linguals. I have had a consultation at a different orthodontist before and was advised that all he could do is basically give me all new teeth which I didn't want. I want my same teeth, just spaced a little differently (my teeth are very small and grew in the correct places, but are spaced widely apart because of their size).

Second, I'm concerned that my insurance (MetLife) isn't going to cover this because it is cosmetic and not a health necessity. I can't afford $10,000 for linguals.

Third, I'm concerned that if he can help me, it will only be a temporary fix, because I've heard a lot about people's teeth shifting back to their orignal position.

I will ask the orthodontist about all of this obviously... the first hurdle I suppose is being accepted for treatment and having my insurance on board.

Any and all replies are appreciated! I hope to be spending a lot of time here over the next several months!

Hi from a fellow newbie.

I have had linguals for about 3 weeks now. Like you it's not because of overcrowding. In my case it's due to some genetic thing which means I don't have enough adult teeth so the braces are to pull the teeth I do have together (after removing a few milk teeth on the way - yep I'm in my 30's and still have some baby teeth!)
I can't help you about insurance as I'm in the UK where health insurance is very different. No ortho treatment is covered here but you can get interest free credit on it usually.
As for your teeth moving after treatment I understand you get retainers after the treatment and it's then totally up to you to make sure you keep your new lovely smile. :)
Well done for plucking up the courage to make the appointment. I was really nervous too.
Good luck!!

Thank you! I am so happy you replied! :D

I also have a baby tooth. I have a baby canine which is still in its same place and isn't loose at all, and then the adult canine growing up over it, and both are clearly visible. Then the rest of my teeth are just very tiny and all spaced out. I'm hoping the linguals can help me! If not I don't know if there are any other alternatives or if I am just stuck. I'll feel like I got up all that courage to call for nothing at all. As far as payment plans, I can do that, but I can really only afford a small amount per month and I'm not sure what they allow as far as a minimum payment allowed per month. I guess I'll find out when I go! Are the retainers visible? I remember in school when my friends had retainers they were in the front of the teeth and just one wire across the front. Do they have retainers for in the back of the teeth?
