Gaps!!

#1 Post by berry »

I have just noticed that there's a visible gap between my teeth, not the front two but the ones beside it. It wasn't there before and I'm becoming really paranoid about it... there's a small extraction gap that needs to be closed, but I don't want gaps between my other teeth!

I'm not seeing my ortho for another 2 months, I'm really worried. :(

I would not worry, this happened to me so many times in the last year... my ortho would just put elastic powerchains on all my teeth to pull them all together and those small gaps disappear practically right away. Which is interesting b/c this larger gap(s) of mine from my extraction doesn't seem to budge at all! But, the smaller ones that open up.. they close almost right away.

Since your appt is 2 months away, if it concerns you, I'd ask if somebody could put something on your teeth for now. However, you have to remember that maybe your ortho is trying to do something else and knew that small gaps would appear. It might be just part of the process.

Do not worry about the gaps. I have those as well. The ortho has shaved in between my teeth and has a power chain to close the gaps. He has done this with my past two adjustments. Now that I am near the end, I am going back in every 3 weeks until the gaps are closed. The small gaps appear because of the shape of the teeth. My teeth are kind of round, so the edges need to be shaved down.

If it concerns you, bring it up at your next adjustment. As your teeth are moving around, more gaps will open and others will close. Toward the end of your treatment, the orthodontist will close them for you.

Hope this helps!

VA5: How long did it take for the powerchains to close up the gaps? I have gaps because my teeth have been turning and at my last visit (last week) I got powerchains on the top and bottom and the gaps on the top don't appear to have changed at all.

I know it takes time to move teeth, but there has been so much movement the past 4 months that it seems like my teeth are 'standing still'. :?
