Repositioning brackets, is it standard practice?

I read this on a blog, and this was a suggestion made my the ortho author:

"Reposition brackets twice during treatment- after leveling and aligning (6-9 months into treatment) and before beginning finishing (4 months before removal).Use a panographic x-ray to evaluate bracket position when repositioning."

Have any of you had brackets repositioned as part of your treatment? I have not had them repositioned.. well, I have had maybe one bracket redone b/c it fell off and she said she wanted to move it anyways.

Brackets are repositioned as necessary to ensure that rotations and the correct tip are established. Sometimes this requires an x-ray to see, but other times it is possible to visualize the long axis of the tooth without an pan x-ray.

Some doctors will bend wire to move the teeth rather than reposition.

tip , i believe, means the way the tooth is leaning. it can be tipped inwards, or outwards (which is basically a flared tooth). neither extreme is desirable. the tip can affect the health of the root and i suppose the gum as well. if it's flared out too much (or the other way), it can eventually put too much undue pressure on the root and cause some ?mechanical problems with the root. I'm sure i'm not explaining correctly, but that is the gist.
