A tad annoyed!

#1 Post by Larah »

So I took the afternoon off work, drove over to the hospital, paid the extortionate parking fee and arrived in good time to find that the consultant would not see me because they have lost my medical records! - and thats not just my orthadontic records, thats all my records! So I now have to wait for the next appointment before anything can be done on my braces- thats presuming they find my records! I feel like I'm getting behind in my treatment and somehow I don't think its fair. Well thats my anger vented! Hope everyone else is getting on much better.

That.is.awful.
And completely unacceptable, and if you live in the US a potentially egregious HIPPA violation. I'd be calling almost daily to ensure where my records were and i'd ask them to track the procedure for why they were unavailable (unless you haven't been a patient in 5 years and they sent them to storage). Honestly, all you need to do when you cal is say "so i've been reading up on HIPPA" and they'll know that they're about to have their A$$E$ handed to them. I'm not at ALL about frivolous lawsuits, but that's a major privacy violation if they're just floating around and I'd consdier suing.

That isn't exactly true about hipaa (1 p 2 a's btw)

there isn't a hipaa police and they will not likely blink an eye at what amounts to a hollow threat.
They didn't share info or breach your privacy and there are no damages ( other than the parking fee) so not much there lawsuit wise.

Now I do feel they should have called you to tell you the records have not yet been found so you could be rescheduled until they receive them.

Part of my job is actually dealing with medical facilities and it isn't as though the office actually broke any HIPAA regulations by losing the medical records, though it is quite an unfortunate event. I hope they find them quickly for you!

Wow what a bummer :( I am sorry to hear that.

I can't help but say, that's the good ol' NHS for you (nah, I shouldn't say that really, because it isn't all that bad).

I hope they find your records and this issue can get sorted asap.

PS: are your appointments spaced quite far apart? I was told that at my local hospital, the NHS Ortho is REALLY busy and appointments are really booked up. I was hoping I would meet the requirements for NHS braces, but I didn't... so I really wish it was sorted as a teen like it should have been.
Braces: Metal fixed upper and lower
Estimated treatment time: 18-24 months
Braces Removed: August 2013 (after 33 months in braces)
