Happy happy happy

#1 Post by TDiamond »

Am so chuffed had an appointment with my ortho yesterday and he says it's time to close my gaps :jump: Best Christmas present ever.

So he put power chains on both sides top and bottom linking my canines to my back molar. Man was I in pain last night :( It has subsided a little today but I am still not able to chew without pain. I am hoping it wears off a bit more by the weekend. Still at least when I feel pain I know they are working.

I wonder how long it will take for gaps to close. Anyone have any idea??

I also have quite a big overbite now since I got my braces. this is because of the way they push your teeth out first of all to widen your arch and line your teeth up. My ortho says depending on how my teeth move with the power chains maybe next time he'll put composite coloured buttons on my two upper canines and give me elastics to hook to my back molars to try and close my bit more. Its a bit annoying as my bite was perfect before!!

I'm so excited to see my teeth with no hillbilly gaps :-*

YAY CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jump: :D :-*

I can't wait until my ortho stats to close my gaps but i've got a long old wait yet.
Not even had the wire fitted on my top arch yet (that's next week).

Hoping he'll start to close them pretty quickly but i've got to get my lower teeth in position first so probs a loooooooong old wait.

Hope the pain soon easies for you!!

Thanks lu lu.

You never know it might be quicker than you think. He told me it would probably be about 9 months before we started to close the gaps but its only been 7 1/2 lower and 5 upper. The time has flown by too it'll be happening before you know it.

I am still aching a bit today, don't think I'm going to enjoy my office christmas meal tonight much.

Good luck with your braces journey x

Hi TDiamond...

I had my linguals put on 5 months ago. Before having braces only my 2 front teeth stucked out, but now all the other front tooth has been pushed out, making it look worst then before. I look awkward in photos. I'm so glad i read your post since i know someone else out they is in the same situation as me.

Sorry not able to advise you on how long it takes to close the gaps. I still have yet to get my extractions. Similar to you my ortho said my teeth has to be alignned first before extractions. Once my teeth are extracted he will concentrate on closing the gaps.

Hi Ana

My overbite is not so bad that it looks worse than before I wouldn't say. It's not noticble to other people I only notice because I can't do things like bite my nails or bite a bit of sellotape to tear it! That is annoying.

Here is a link to my braces story where I have put pictures viewtopic.php?f=9&t=35858

I got my extractions done before I got the wire on. My teeth had to be aligned before he started to close the gaps.

Good luck with your braces journey it will be worth it in the end. I am happy with how my teeth are looking already it will be even better once the gaps are closed.

My teeth are still pretty painful today from the power chains and my tongue has ulcers from rubbing against them too. they'll get used to it though hopefully :|

Hi TDiamond,

I saw your pics...your teeth are looking good!! And yes you don't have that much of an overbite. Unfortunately mine is quite noticeable. My frens & family have noticed and commented about them. Anyway, my ortho have told me not worry...the next visit will be extractions and pushing back all my teeth. Can't wait :D. Hope your pain have gone by now.
