Question about springs

#1 Post by sean2187 »

I just got springs on yesterday (total of 3) and each spring goes against a few teeth horizontally (figured i'd tell you guys so you didnt think they were going diagonally) and literally as soon as i got home and checked my teeth i noticed that 3 of my bottom teeth are flaring. I called my ortho and he said not to worry, this is normal, and that it won't be permanent, but i sometimes worry about being lied too because i have read many people talk about teeth flaring after braces treatment and that some of their orthos told them this wouldnt happen and then when it did, they were told "there's nothing we can do about it unless you go through another course of treatment" which would end up costing them more money in the long run (i know my situation is different, because im not done with braces treatment obviously and my flaring is due to the springs, but i had to mention about the flaring stories i've read). Anyways, what i want to know is have any of you had the metal springs to help create more force on moving your crowded teeth apart and as a result had teeth flare temporarily? and what did your ortho do to correct the flaring?

PS: I would handle most of my questions with my ortho, because he truely seems like a nice guy, but i notice when i start asking him multiple questions he gets frustrated and just keeps telling me not to worry (and that's not very comforting to me) so im hoping somebody here can help me out with this situation

I have a spring on the bottom. It was making room for a crowded, rotated tooth. It has finally made enough room for the tooth to start turning. Now, the spring is just maintaining the space while the tooth turns. When I first got the spring my teeth did flare some. But, they aren't flaring anymore. I think that they may flare some, but it will be corrected once the space has been made. I wouldn't worry about it - yet. I would give your teeth time to make room and then your Ortho will probably correct any flaring. Also, I have had either powerties or my ligs tied in figure 8's on the teeth with the spring.

thank you for answering my question. it seemed like nobody was going to reply. Well im hoping he will eventually correct the teeth that have flared or like you said, the teeth correct themselves.. thanks again

I had springs on my upper teeth to make space for my lateral incisors. My centre teeth did flare out a bit which worried me as my lips was getting stuck on them but they all moved back to a nice position afterwards.
