I totally know how this feels!! I was the same way!! I was banded shut for 10wks, and after that it took me quite some time to be able to figure out how to open wide enough and how to chew again. Just hold on strong! I'm not sure what you have been "eating" but I tried to spice things up by going to my local market and getting the broth out of the tasty smelling soups. It was nice that I didn't have to cook a whole soup to have things wasted, and I was able to get some different flavors! Best of luck.

if it starts affecting your health you could try some of the clinical nuitrition drinks you can buy at the pharmacy.
theoretically you should talk to your doctor first about this, but I doubt there is any reason against it.

some people live for months or years on this stuff. doesn't always taste very good though, but I've found one that I like.

If I remember correctly you are not wired or banded shut right? So, I assume you are on a soft diet, right? If that's the case, that's where I'm at too, and I know you are further post op than me, so here are my soft food diet suggestions:

sushi--cut into quarters--lots of protein
miso soup
agedashi tofu--yummy!!

any kind of chinese restaurant chicken dish--it's really soft to chew--veggies are too hard

meatloaf
mashpotatoes

stuffed cabbage
perogies

sweet potato fries
any kind of cooked fish--I've done snapper and salmon so far
crab cakes
cooked veggies--especially spinach.

let me know if you need more suggestions!

I'm on a soft food diet as well and I've found that things like banana, yoghurt, fish, porridge, mashed potato and chicken breast are really good :)

Went to Tim Horton's for lunch today with my 10year old---ate a lovely bowl of soup, the inside of the bread/roll that came with it (the crust was a bit too crusty), and a delicious (but not nutritious) boston creme doughnut (I figured it was OK since I lost a bunch of weight right after surgery   ) It was soooooo tasty!!

I am almost totally off the protein shakes---only down to every other day or every third day depending on what else I have in the house...if I am afraid I may get hungry if we are out all day with no good soft food choices then I take one along with me.

You just have to branch out a little bit, use the jaw as much as you are able to---eating normal food will start to make you feel better again...I forgot we went out for Greek last weekend--I ate rice, roast lamb, and hummus (with a spoon)--missed eating the pita bread, but I got over it!!

good luck!

My son went six weeks on liquid only (partly by choice - he was just a bit hesitant about starting on soft food).

One thing we found really filling was red curry sauce (red curry paste plus full-fat coconut milk) with just about anything. We used both chicken and tofu as the main protein plus some kind of vegetable and then blended the hell out of it. Something else that was suprisingly good was bacon and eggs, mixed with some milk and quacamole.

My son is bone thin, and he absolutely didn't want anything with sugar in it, so we really worried that he'd lose weight. Instead, he actually gained a little bit, mainly because of the insanely high-fat meals. In addition to these two meals, we cut just about everything with either pesto sauce or guacamole. So, every meal had a strange green haze to it, but it did keep my son from starving.

How's the jaw healing going?

Hi again,
You were banded shut for 10 weeks? Wow, you are a trooper. Is that common to band shut? I thought that wasn't done any longer....

The "norm" for Dr.Gunson is 8wks, but I was high risk. They aren't wires, they are rubber bands. I changed them every day and had to do exercises. So I was able to have some freedom, but no solids.
