Well, I'm 12 days in now and I have to say that I have never experienced such a roller-coaster of sensations in my entire life than I have since getting braces! From extreme pain all the way to total numbness (with everything else in between).
What's with the numb teeth feeling? Does anyone else remember feeling that? Is it normal?
Thanks!

Re: Does anyone else have Numb Teeth?
Oh yes, and it's very normal! Your nerves get worked a lot as your teeth move (the nerves in your mouth, not in your brain! Well... maybe those nerves, too. ) As my canine was being pulled back to close a gap, that tooth, along with the gums around it, got totally numb, but it goes away eventually. "Roller Coaster" is a perfect term to describe what you feel in this process. One day you feel no pain or discomfort... and a few hours later it's HELL! Hang in there...
If you start to experience extreme pain, though, let your ortho know.

Re: Does anyone else have Numb Teeth?
I'm 1 day in and am HOPING for numbness. Yeouch!
Re: Does anyone else have Numb Teeth?
For the first 6 weeks after my braces went on i had what felt like numbness in my front teeth (when i pushed together with my upper & lower teeth i couldn't feel anything) yet every time i tried to bite into something they were excruciatingly painful - if that makes any sense!!
I think it's perfectly normal - apparently mine lasted a bit longer than is normal but its gone now

It makes total sense! I can't chew with my teeth because they hurt when I do, but if I push on them with my tongue or put pressure on them with my lips they feel "numb".Flamingo wrote:For the first 6 weeks after my braces went on i had what felt like numbness in my front teeth (when i pushed together with my upper & lower teeth i couldn't feel anything) yet every time i tried to bite into something they were excruciatingly painful - if that makes any sense!!
