Are spacers supposed to hurt your jaw?

#1 Post by Mdoodm1000 »

Hi, so I found an orthodontist that is willing to try an expander rather than taking the jaw surgery route. He asked me in the consultation if I have clicking and popping in my jaw, and i told him sometimes. He just wrote it down and didn't bring it back up. They put the spacers on and they felt fine. After a couple hours the area where they put them started to hurt a little, but I thought that was normal. Now 3 days later, all of my teeth hurt a little, and my jaw feels like it was punched. The pain is nearly unbearable when I try to open my mouth wide. Is this normal with spacers, or do you think this could be a sign of TMJD? Thanks for any input!
