Healing well after surgery.. but I still have an open bite!!

I had surgery two weeks ago and everything seemed great after. Now they tell me I have an open bite, and my back teeth don't meet on the right any more. I'm in elastics that are attached to my canines and the two teeth directly below.. Is this something that happens a lot?

Also no one's told me how elastics work! Are there any resources I can read up on open bites and elastics?

as far as I know, elastics are to bring down the teeth they're attached too, or at least thats what my ortho told me. feel better!

I had an open bite after sarpe surgery for a few weeks (did not have one before). Elastics sorted it, dont worry!

I am 18 months post op and still have an open bite on the right side. My orthodontist tells me the teeth will eventually come together. It has been a slow process but the gap continues to get smaller.
