Do all splints have a screw in the top palette?

Do all splints have a screw in the top palette?

Hi everyone! I'm wondering if all splints have this screw on the top palette to hold it in place like this photo here:

Mine didn't. I had double jaw surgery and they just wired the splint to the top brace. I'm in the UK though, where miniscrews seem to be a lot less common than in the States. Not sure why a splint would need a screw.
