Sore molars and it is affecting ability to eat

#1 Post by coda »

Hey all,

I am just over one month in. I have clear ceramic uppers and lowers with a TPA as well. They had to put bite blockers on two upper molars because my top molars were hitting my back brackets. The problem is, is that those molars are very sensitive to any pressure and I can't bite down with the same pressure to eat properly so I am not chewing my food properly. Also, I have notices that I clench my teeth at night and I wake up and feel the pain from the pressure that I have been putting on my back teeth.

Is this normal? When will it go away?

I am having the same problem. I don't have the bite blockers but my molars are super sensitive and I can't chew hardly anything! I've also been clenching occassionally since I got my braces on. I was a clencher before but it seems worse now. I think it's normal because your bite is changing everyday with treatment. What helps me to stop the clenching is sleeping with my face on a heating pad on the lowest setting. This really helps my jaw relax! I know it's really aggravating! Take some advil and give your molars time to stop hurting. They will eventually. My ortho tells me to chew sugar free gum to help with this also. Hope this helps!
