Time between next wire

#1 Post by KatrinkaNoir »

I just got my top braces yesterday and when they made my next appointment, they made it for eight weeks from now. My husband had braces as an adult and said the appointment should be in four weeks. Is this normal at first?

It's different for everyone.

I've had some 8 weeks, some 6, and even some 4...

Maybe your husband should do the rest as he's an orthodontist ? :)

4 weeks is more common with traditional braces as the ligs need changing. I'm on 8 week appointments with my SL brackets. It all depends on what needs to be done and my ortho doesn't always change the wire if it still needs to do more work so i may have the same wire for several months! I think appointments get closer together at the end too when all the little details are fixed.

Oh, well that makes sense! I do have self-ligating on the tops, and I believe my husband had ligating all around. Makes perfect sense. It's funny what makes can make a person nervous at first. Eventually, I'll have this down pat and it will be so normal :). Thank you both for your help!

Ten weeks for me. My H said the same thing as your husband did.

There is so much to learn and keep straight! I thought it was every 4 weeks!

It is common to have the longer time between visits when you have the self-ligating braces.

Mine vary. First one was about 7 weeks I think, then 4 and my next one will have been 6 weeks in between.
