Adjustments don't hurt... is my teeth not moving??
Hi everyone
Well I got my first adjustment today and nothing hurt at all! Ok maybe I shouldn't be complaining but should it not hurt abit? I'm just abit concerned that maybe my teeth aren't moving etc when I don't have any discomfort?

Everyone is different and different adjustments feel different too (wow, I just said different way too many times ).
My daughter hardly feels any pain at all with any of hers (until she got her powerchain on anyway) but I was in agony initially and for my first 2. My last one though I was a bit tender for a day or 2 and have not had a problem since.
It doesn't mean things aren't happening

This is my experience too. I've had no pain after adjustments (had 3 now) and just the occasional tender tooth for a day or 2 when my braces first went on. I've had lots of movement. In fact, I've had so much movement that I don't need the bite plate that is in my treatment plan and my lower brackets went on at 3 months rather than at 6-9 months. Some of us are just orthodontically lucky!!!Harmony wrote:Hi everyone

I so agree!!!! The first couple of visits were painless and I thought this was great but visit #3 was "take off the training wheels and let's get down to business". Power chains, elastics and rectangular wire all at once - BAM! Most visits are good and I can normally tolerate the small stuff but Advil and lip balm have become my best friends through this journey.Tobilei wrote:Some of us who are orthodontically challenged are massively jealousCiara wrote: Some of us are just orthodontically lucky!!!

Doesn't pain come not from movement, but from teeth being pushed but not moving? I've actually had a tooth hurt, "click" into its new place, and immediately feel better. If it moves right away it won't have time to hurt.

Hi everyone
Thanks alot for the replies Ok maybe I'm one of the lucky ones as well like Ciara. However marybee I think I'll get myself prepared for some pain maybe in future visits. I got my lower metal brackets on last week and they haven't even hurt either - ok won't say much more about no pain because I could regret it!! lol

Will keep this in mind and not be too surprised if one of my adjustments hurt in the future.Rasperry wrote:I didn't feel anything for several adjustments in a row, but the recent one made my teeth sensitive for over a week.

So far, I haven't experienced any substantial pain, just sensitive/tender teeth (and that comes and goes, but of course is worse right after a wire change).
I've only seen improvement on the top. My front gap is nearly gone, but now the two on the side by my canines seem huge, so I'm looking forward to advancing beyond power chains. I'd almost convinced myself we might finish early, except I saw August 2014 listed as the projected end during my February visit.

Had an apt on tuesday. Told them to crank it up. They said, okay, only if you don't get mad at me. Result: very little additional soreness. They were just a tad sore before the apt, and about the same afterwards. Kinda disappointing. I want these puppies moving!
Braces on: 2/25/2013. Braces Off: 12/23/2015
Current Retainers: Hawley Top, Essix Bottom, and Permanent Lingual Bottom

OMG, I feel sorry for you Tobilei!
I think it depends on how the individual is "wired" in both senses of the word.

Tobilei, I'm so sorry to hear you are still having so much pain. I'd hoped it would settle down for you....Tobilei wrote:Lol, I am in so much agony right now this post made me all kinds of envious!oldfart wrote:Had an apt on tuesday. Told them to crank it up. Aww thank you! And lol, yes, I'm full of faulty wiring unfortunately! My braces are probably the only thing about me that got wired properlyisthistaken wrote:OMG, I feel sorry for you Tobilei!

Thank you Ciara. I hoped so too but it seems I'm just going to be unlucky (sigh). Feeling a little bit better today. Still sore but at least I can touch my teeth together without pain firing out my ears
