Concerns I have before making more consultation appointments

#1 Post by Gemma90 »

My last consultation I was told to close up the gaps in my too small teeth for my jaw I could have the 6 month smile brace on for about 5 months.

There are a few questions I have before making any more consultations and deciding if to go ahead with braces or not...

I have a misaligned jaw which isn't too noticeable I don't think but to me. And although my back teeth seem to come together alright, my 4 front teeth and bottom teeth veer off at an angle. Would a brace make this more noticable when treatment has finished? Because the gappy teeth stick outwards slightly, im worried pushing them back and together would?

I have smallish lips. Would I loose any fullness I have in my lips if my teeth were to be pushed back?

I think only an orthodontist would be able to better predict the outcome of braces for you.

I think that if you have bite/jaw issues though you should possibly look at regular braces as opposed to 6 month smiles. It might take longer but the result will likely be better in the long run (I don't think we have 6 month smiles in Australia so I'm not sure of the price difference if that's a concern).

Have you had more than one consult?

I had 6 (yes six!!) consultations and the last one was who I felt the most comfortable with. I liked his treatment plan, price and office. So keep looking until you feel that youve found the answers you are looking for.

I agree with Tobilei and SunshineRay. Sounds like you need more than just the cosmetic fix of Six Month Smiles and only a good ortho will know for sure. Go to as many consults as you can until you feel certain you will be getting the proper treatment and feel that your ortho is someone with whom you can discuss all your concerns.
