Working immediately after getting braces

Working immediately after getting braces
I had originally booked the day off so that I can spend some time getting used to my new braces but now may need to return to work for an event. Is this wise or should I stick with taking the day off?
Re: Working immediately after getting braces
I went in to work because I got braces done on the same day as consultation. I was fine.... just a little bit sore. The real tenderness/pain didn't start till that evening. Good luck!

You'll be fine. My worst days were 3-6 days after fitting. At least at work you'll be distracted and not thinking about it so much
Re: Working immediately after getting braces
I hit the gym hard on worst days of braces pain.
Didn't make it any worse.
Edit. Just realized you said work. My bad.
I also reported to work lol didn't have a choice on that one.

Re: Working immediately after getting braces
I was really tired after I got mine and having a mouthful of metal for the first time is to be respected--would have hard time functioning at anything except eating froyo.
Re: Working immediately after getting braces
For me it was from that night onwards. I got mine on about 11am and by 6pm I was in agony and as stated above, could concentrate on nothing but ice cream and soup.
I did manage to make it to the gym the next day and spent the entire time bumping my teeth on each other while lightening bolts of pain shot out of my eyes so skipped it for about 2 days afterwards.
You might be okay for a few hours afterwards on the day (or you might be fine, plenty of people are). It's unpredictable who'll get pain and who won't.
Boy, I'm very helpful aren't I?

Hey, you were helpful to me! I needed a laugh...lightning bolts??
Re: Working immediately after getting braces
Everyone is different of course but for most the pain doesn't come until much later or the next day. I know that was the case with me. Take ibuprofen whether you're in pain yet or not, just in case so that you stay comfy.

So sorry, that sounds terrible! But the lightning bolts just cracked me up.Tobilei wrote:Oh yes! It was agonyisthistaken wrote:Hey, you were helpful to me! I needed a laugh...lightning bolts??
I didn't have any pain at first. Just the uncomfortable feeling that I had just walked into a hardware store and buried my face in a bin of nuts and bolts.

Glad I could make you laugh. Wasn't funny at the time, but it is now it's over
Re: Working immediately after getting braces
You should be fine I went straight back to work. Just remember the pain killers the first 3-4 days. Take them regularly even if you're not hurting at first
Re: Working immediately after getting braces
I had mine applied mid-afternoon so I did not return to work. I had told a few of my team that I would be getting braces, mostly as a heads-up that if I was grumpier than usual it was probably related to that .
I did however treat myself to a supersized meal at McDonalds on the way home, something I rarely do. By then I figured that even drivers passing me on the freeway in the opposite could see my hideous mouth, now containing the metal equivalent of the Eifel Tower.
And I ate that stuff in my car! AND I NEVER EAT IN MY CAR! And afterwards my mouth felt about as disgusting as a mouth could feel with that grease congealing. Perhaps I am a bit overly dramatic.
A Water pic on the highest setting and then an adult beverage soon helped to ease the situation, I am happy to report.

Mine were applied in the morning so I went back to work.....with a large smoothie that took me the whole day to drink..........

I'm not sure about your situation but I work in sales, so I talk ALOT for my job...
Therefore it was very wise for me to book my appointment on a Saturday and have an extra day or so to adjust to all of the metal in my mouth. Not just the pain but saying certain words with an S, "Th', "R".......The braces felt like having marbles in my mouth and I felt like Eliza Doolittle lol.
