Hi everyone, I'm new to the boards. I'm Zack, from Alaska.
I have some concerns with how my jaw is doing. Here is the story for some background on what happened.
On May 10th I was at a gathering out in Sutton, AK. A little disagreement happened between a friend of mine and some other guy. Well I walked over and slowly moved the guy away from my buddy and started talking to him and moved my girlfriend out of the way invade something happened. There was a lot of people here so I was in a crowd. Well I was talking to the kid for about 30 seconds and then out of no where one of his friends hit me from behind with brass knuckles on my right side fracturing my angle all the way through. I then fell hitting my jaw on the tailgate of my girlfriends truck and that broke the right side of my jaw completely. The guy ran off and I didn't see him again. Mind you I was extremely intoxicated so I'm glad I honestly didn't feel the pain from the break. I had my girlfriend drive me to the hospital and surprise I had two fractures in my mouth, one of them was exposed inside my mouth.
A couple days later on Monday I had surgery and they put arch bars in while I was under and put two titanium plates in my mouth. Cooooool. Not.
I'm sure most of you know, days 3-7 are the worst, I seriously wanted to die. I never want to live through that again. Which brings me to my actual questions and concerns.
They didn't wire me shut. My jaw has been healing great! Only issue is my bite is a little to the left, it's off and the arch bars have moved my teeth a little on the bottom.
My doc is pretty pissed that my bite is off cause it matched up perfect during surgery.
So my questions are, has anyone had this problem? Did they have to do surgery again? We're they able to fix things with braces? I'm curious.
Also, I've progressed on food a little. No more banana smoothies and mashed potatoes. I've been able to shred up some chicken and eat it. Maybe a little chew here and there but nothing that would cause pain. I've heard some clicking or popping on my right side. Is that normal? It doesn't hurt. It's just a pop or click when I close my mouth or anything like that. Not all the time either.
Thanks,
Zack.

My bite has shifted a while after surgery just after my first orthodontic treatment post surgery honestly my bite feels more normal that way. My midline was perfectly aligned up and down. Now it has shifted to the right a little for the bottom jaw that means that the bite has shifted a little as well. After speaking with my orthodontist he told me that was not a problem and that he could eventually restore it. He also told me that it's sometimes impossible to get a straight midline up and down. The guy is one of the best in the region. Maybe i'm wrong but i've read on the web that 70% of people does not have a perfect bite. I`ve also read that it's possible to fix this with rubber band but that i'm not sure. The important thing is that your bite is still considered class 1 which is a normal bite.
