Almost Six Months In And My Lowers Are Wired

#1 Post by PeaCat »

Well, it's getting really interesting now. For awhile I had a Lauren Hutton like gap between my central incisors. Cool. But when I got my new upper wire with a hot pink power chain the gap began to close by the time I got home. That was about six weeks ago.

My orthodontist is pleased with my progress and I am thrilled to see so much progress. Yesterday things got kicked up a notch or two when my lower teeth got wired.

YEEEEEEEEEE OUCH!

My ortho "installed" sillicon bumpers on top of the brackets so they won't damage my upper teeth. Good idea. But now my mouth does not close all the way and my molars don't even meet. Eating lunch and dinner yesterday was a bit problematic and uncomfortable. Breakfast this morning was half an avocado and yogurt with blueberries and hemp hearts mixed in.

The lower brackets already are digging into my cheeks and I feel the beginnings of the "ground meat" effect. Silicon wax is my salvation. I've really laid it on heavy over both the tops, bottoms and sides of the brackets. The problems are only on the left side. The right side feels fine.....so far. Such fun.

Here's my freshly wired lower jaw and my much improved uppers!

Much improvement since getting my lowers wired on Thursday of last week. Of course I tried to do way too much. My husband and I went camping and "broke in" our new camping stove. I bought a nice slab of flat iron steak and set it to marinating in pineapple, lime and spices for the day. We grilled it for dinner. It was very tasty and tender by my husband's standards, but PAINFUL to eat for me. Oh my gawd, my lower teeth hurt like heck for the next 24 hours! Guess I'll have to get really creative with meatloaf for the foreseeable future. I can smush and moosh meatloaf around before swallowing without too much pain.

Today I stopped by my orthodontist's office to pick up more silicon wax and he was able to put some sort of "stop" on my back molars to ease the "ground beef" effect. It works! Yeah! Now I don't feel the need for so much wax. Whew!

Oh, and my lower jaw is figuring out where to put itself. The molars are beginning to meet again. Whew!

Heh, yes, I remember the first time I attempted steak. I'm pretty sure I went hungry that night! Tooka ges for me to be able to have steak. Even now I struggle with it sometimes.

Glad your ortho fixed things up so they're not rubbing as much!
