Went in for my second follow-up appointment with the Carriere distalizers. The bad news is that I won't go back for another 5+ weeks, but the good news is... when I do go back they'll take these things off my teeth! Woo-hoo!!! I'm a little bummed that I won't be out of the distalizers before my birthday and the ballet performance I'm in this summer, but I'm still relieved that my sentence was on the short end of the original 3-6 month estimate (they will have been on for about 3 and a half months when they come off).
They'll do another set of scans when I get the distalizers off and I'll have to wear Essix retainers full-time until the Invisalign trays come in, but glad to see a finish line for this stage of treatment!

Congrats! That's exciting.

So, I got the Carriere distalizers off... yay.
But apparently I may have been a bit TOO compliant with my elastics (?).
My top canines have become over-extruded and one of them has some bleeding and inflammation around it as a result. My ortho asked if I'd done anything beyond the prescribed treatment, i.e. doubling up on elastics or something. Which... okay, I could barely get one of those horrid, thick, XX4 elastics to stay on the hooks; there was no way I could've gotten two on there if I tried. And I was in enough pain with singles, so... no. I did what I was told. I guess this is just how my teeth responded.
Next step is a bit up in the air at this point. I will go on to Invisalign; the question is, when. They gave me an Essix retainer for my bottom teeth and I go back for a check in two days to see how my poor, ugly, vampire canines are faring. If they happen to intrude somewhat on their own I think he might give them a bit of time to settle before doing my Invisalign scan. If not I'm thinking he'll just go ahead with retaining the teeth as-is and doing the scan now so that they can start intruding the teeth with Invisalign (luckily I've read this is something Invisalign is very good at!).
So... not quite the result I was hoping for out of step one, but it is over and I'm happy to say a fond farewell to my mean elastics even if it means a hello to "chewies" to get my bottom retainer to fit!
