First adjustment later today... question

#1 Post by jean001 »

so how bad is it? From other's experience...is it worse than when they put them on or not as bad?

Also we went on vacation last week and the week before and we went out on my birthday to Ruby Tuesdays. I got the salad bar and one thing had cut up apples in it so I figured it was ok. After we left my braces kept feeling weird on one side in the front and now after about 9 days my front tooth looks out of line just a bit. So I guess I bent the wire? It doesn't look bent or anything but it felt weird for a few days.

Anyway I'll be glad to get the wire changed but just wondering how much pain to expect.

My first adjustment was extremely painful. I had been warned by my dental assistant to take ibuprofen but I didn't and I was climbing the walls. It HURT while they were replacing the wire, installing a power chain and removing a bracket, but the pain subsided immediately and never bothered me again.

I was ready for them the second time. I took two ibuprofen about an hour before and then two more a few minutes before the appointment. I handled this one much better, there was only some pressure but nothing close to the first time.

Someone else told me the same thing so I just took a Ibuprofin. Should l take two again right before the appointment or right after?

How did it go? I have my first next Thursday, so a little more than a week from now. I'd love to hear as much about it as possible. Thanks. Hopefully it was not too bad.

Mine hurt a LOT but not nearly as bad as when I got them on. And the pain didn't hang around as long either. They've steadily gotten less painful the more I have. Hope it went okay!

I took the Ibuprofen and it seems to be helping. So far it isn't as bad as when I got them on. It feels a little sore and they feel tighter. I'm sure as the wire gets changed that will continue. He said next time they will be putting on the bottom braces.

I felt nothing. Just some tugging and pulling, a bit of pressure and that was it. All my adjustments have been like this. My ortho keeps telling me that something she is about to do will hurt, it never does and then she spends quite a while asking herself why it didn't hurt. I guess everyone is different.

Glad to hear you have the first adjustment behind you. If seems to get easier for most people.

I swear the ortho techs seem a bit disappointed when I report minimal pain. I wonder if there is some sort of gambling pool going on in the back room, placing odds on who will have how much pain. "OK, we're giving 2:1 odds that Dan will have the worst pain yet after these powerchains go on, and maybe I whap him with one of my tools. Who's in?"

Same!!! :-)

Well, I do jump a bit when they're taking the old powerchain off...then it's smooth sailing from there.

Well I had more pain yesterday than the first day which I guess is to be expected. It's better today but I think it was because they had not connected my back teeth (last one's on each side) to the wire the first time. They did a longer wire this time and connected then to the rest and that's where it is hurting most. The rest are just mildly sore.

Next time he's putting on the bottoms so it'll be like starting fresh and painful.

At the office I go to they always say your not going to like me much tomorrow... and the girl where you check out says.. your probably going to have some pain tomorrow. So before I leave at least two people mention it.
