Fingers crossed for April
New to this so just to say hello. Have been in braces nearly three years now. Looking at double jaw and at minute am still too far away for surgery. Last visit was still at like 11 mm and says is still too much. Been pushed back twice now as not there yet but feels like a lifetime.

Hi,
That sure
Y is a long time! I just had my surgery a week ago, and everything went smoothly. I was in braces a year and a half before that and my teeth were pretty straight to begin with!
From what my docs say, the more perfect your bite BEFORE the surgery, the better fit the surgeon can achieve during surgery. Then you should only be in braces a short time following surgery.
I have read of patients who went into surgery too early and weren't able to achieve as good results and had to be in braces for quite a while after. Sad day.
The day will be here before you know, and you'll be worrying about your recovery (which will go well btw!)
Good luck!

Am really looking forward to getting op now. Need to remember like you say that they want everything to be perfect before they do op or won't work properly. Looking at April for surgery now.

My ortho did such a great job with pre-surgical ortho I was de-braced only 3 1/2 months after the surgical splint came off, and not a single adjustment other than a wire-bend was made; most of the post-surgical ortho effort was in the use of moderate elastics to retrain my jaw muscles for the new bite and extrude a couple of molars the surgical splint intruded.

Ortho reckons will be up to a year before braces off but am hoping that's the worst case scenario figure they have to give out.

Bracedbored- I have had similar experiences to yours. My surgery has been pushed back a couple of times as well. My teeth are lovely and straight... it is the roots of my canines that are the problem. My orthodontist refers to it as the torque. That makes it sound very tough, and awesome...like a car.
They say the same thing - both my ortho and surgeon - that if I get the surgery before my teeth are ready, he won't be able to do as good of a job. But I have to tell you, with my headaches, joint pain, neck aches etc, I am SO READY to get this stuff taken care of!!!
I have high hopes for July. We shall see.

Had extra appointment the other day as top brace was forcing its way into my bottom jaw. Have bit more info now so bit excited. Start of April for moulds then after a week meet with surgeon and looking like middle of April for op fingers crossed. Hopefully lissybear22 you will be able to get sorted in July. Fingers crossed.
