Progress after only 5 weeks!

I've decided to share this because I wanted other adults to know that the palate expander does work on us older folks! When I turned 40 last fall, I decided to treat myself to finally getting my teeth straight. The ortho told me it would be 3 years in braces and possibly a couple jaw surgeries. I told him I did not want that and to see if we could do it without surgery if possible. They placed the RPE on December 3, and a gap showed up between my front teeth on the mornin of Dec. 22! Within the course of a few hours, I went from overlapping from teeth to a gap.

They put top and bottom braces on Jan. 3rd and I just took some pics and am stunned at my progress!! There is hope for adult expansion!

I have to also mention that my ortho told me at the beginning that it would be at least 6 months before he would put bottom braces on, so I was surprised when both top and bottoms went on at my appointment in January. There was an older visiting orthodontist in his office helping that day, and he told my orthodontist he was stunned at the gap and calls it a miracle. He told my ortho that he should document my case with pictures every visit for a teaching case for expanders.

My next appointment is not until March 4th, so I cant imagine how much more movement can happen in the next month. I hope he is happy and I can get this infernal expander out!!!

Thank you all so much. It is so nice to have people excited for you, as I showed this to my hubby and teenage children and all I got was a halfhearted "great...." from them! Haha
