Painful aches in my neck

So life's getting back to normal now; the stitches have pretty much healed, I'm doing all my normal activities, I'm eating solids now. But recently I've had aches in either side of my neck, like on opposite sides of my Adam's apple. At first, I thought it was due to smiling and laughing too much, or maybe due to the fact that I'm chewing food more. The elastic bands don't seem to help, doesn't relieve the pain at all. I can't get comfortable in bed as a result, as I usually sleep with my head to one side. What's going on?

Could be lots of things. Anything from small blockages or inflammation in your salivary glands (slightly higher than you mentioned,) thyroid issues, swelling, muscles or tissues being stretched from your surgery, to a disk in your neck being inflamed... That's a very short list of some of the different things.

Growing up I'd give things 10 days to resolve themselves. As I'm a bit older and slightly wiser now; I've cut that down to 3-5 days.

Whatever your personal timeframe is; if it's not resolved by then I'd contact your Dr or surgeon.
