NEWBIE HERE
Hello everyone!
Newbie here who's on the verge of joining that oh-so cool BRACEFACE club. The GROWN-UP version. :-)
I've been actually wanting to get braces for quite a few years. Recently went to the dentist (hadn't been in years) and had every intent on inquiring about orthodonita. Sure enough, my dentist recommended it before I even brought it up. My teeth aren't horrible, but they're far from where they need to be. I have an overbite, some serious spacing in my lower teeth, and slightly crooked upper teeth (it's hard to tell just by looking at them, but the crookedness REALLY shows up in pictures).
Anyway, I'm MADD EXCITED to start this journey, and I'm glad I found this forum. Finally at 38 years old, I'll be on my way to that perfect smile. :-D
Oh, and BTW - I' WILL be rocking my braces with SWAG. Yeah baby!

Re: NEWBIE HERE
Welcome! I took the plunge at 54 as a result of a spur of the moment decision and like you made the decision after I saw how really crooked my teeth looked in pictures. Not having thought it through much prior to jumping in (about 10 days from initial decision point to banding) I had some moments of serious doubt the night before my appointment. What got me to stay the course were all the positive comments I saw on this site and the realization that it's not as big a deal as you might believe it is. What, I don't have a pickup truck grill attached to my face?
Only 5 weeks in as of today (who's counting?) and the adjustments to life aren't all that major. Eating is bothersome and I initially thought that I would be malnourished however my desire to eat has proven insurmountable.
Enjoy the experience, BRACEFACE!

Good luck with your journey! I've had mine on for just over a week.
Was very nervous about getting it done, I am a 30 year old in sales.
Look forward to seeing your progress

Welcome to the club, you'll do great. I've been in braces for over two years, but my sentence was extended a while longer due to some slow molar movement. As my ortho enjoys pointing out, "Dan, some patients are just more dense." Such a comedian.

Re: NEWBIE HERE
Hey guys, thanks so much for the warm welcome!
I have my first consultation a week from today. I'll probably go on a few consultations unless this first orthodontist absolutely rocks my world. LOL! It's funny that unlike most people, especially men my age, I'm totally NOT self-conscious about having braces on. I've known quite a few friends and peers who've had braces as an adult, and I've always though braces looked cool on most people. When I see an adult with braces it says to me: "Cool - this person cares enough about their looks and their health to invest in making an improvement." I have a co-worker (a cop) who's a 42 year old man and he just got braces a few weeks ago. So, I'm definitely not worries about being seen with braces. In fact, I'm sure I'll be MORE likely to smile big with braces on than I am right now.
Now that I'm in a position where I have decent dental insurance and can afford to do this - no more waiting. I think I have a fairly nice smile, so why not get some straight teeth to accupy it? Reading all of your posts on this board, seeing the awesome results, and watching YouTube videos of people sharing their experiences has been VERY encouraging. It's like braces have become somewhat of an obasession for me right now! LOL
Hopefully I can complete my treatment by the time I'm 40. I'll definitely be sharing my progress once I get started! :-)

Re: NEWBIE HERE
Good luck! I denied my teeth were so crooked. Then I became a "grandma" and that is when all the photos were up close with the babies. That is when I realized how bad they had shifted.
I have clear braces and they give me so much confidence. After two weeks you will forget they are even there.

So true, it becomes more manageable day by day. I've just reached the two week mark and I feel much more settled in themBracesat57 wrote: After two weeks you will forget they are even there.

Good luck to you!! I too will be becoming a brace face soon and am learning to just embrace it! It will be all worth it in the end.
