Emma in braces
Hi everyone
I've posted elsewhere on the board a few times but I've only just really seen this section. It's amazingly inspirational! So I thought I'd jump on board
I'm 34 and just had braces fitted last week. I'm too for pictures yet, but maybe one day! I'm still on liquids only as I have elastics and eating with them is impossible as far as I can tell. My dentist did say I could take them out to eat, but I want to maximise the results so I haven't yet. Later on I will though, as it's roast day!
I'm not enjoying this, but reading everyone's stories and the encouragement I've had so far is keeping me positive

Re: Emma in braces
Welcome to the club! You will get used to your braces pretty soon and then you'll be happy to show your progress pictures!!! I think I was in month 3 before I officially posted some pictures. I was also very embarrassed at the beginning but I was so inspired by others on this site that I wanted to share what was happening with my braces journey. Most people I know have never mentioned my braces and never ask me any questions, which makes me not bring them up either. It is so nice to have the Archwired community to commiserate and celebrate with!!!
Good luck!

Re: Emma in braces
Thanks professor
First day at work today since having them fitted, then straight into a meeting where I had to talk lots! I felt a bit self conscious at first but nobody looked at me oddly. First day without wax, too. Although I have just put some on the left middle brackets, really scratchy today!
I kind of managed roast in Sunday. Had soft chicken, mash and peas drowned In gravy. Took about an hour to eat it all, but I'll count it as a win

Re: Emma in braces
Eating will get quicker. At least until (if) you have a painful adjustment, but that goes away too. The slowness of eating was something I wasn't expecting, or at least it wasn't something I could really imagine until I actually experienced it!
I'm not particularly enjoying my braces, either, and at almost 8 months I'm really ready for them to be off. Perhaps this is how pregnant women feel hehe

Re: Emma in braces
I've had the thought about pregnancy too, especially as my estimated time is 9 months!
Have finally stopped obsessively checking for movement. I can't see any yet, but my teeth have stopped aching all the time. One random tooth keeps having sensitivity on the odd day, but all ok in general. Three weeks to adjustment one, whoop.
Oh, one person at work has commented. Just asked how long I'd have them in. No pointing and staring! I know my speech is affected but I think I just sound different rather than odd.

Re: Emma in braces
First latte today, I can't resist any longer!
My sores seem to have calmed down now, apart from by my very last upper bracket on the right. The constant mirror gazing has let up slightly. Impatient to see some changes but nothing yet

Re: Emma in braces
Two weeks in. Not seeing any changes yet, but I can be patient! Still on soft food, and my lower lip is getting cut up when eating so it's soup every other night. As everyone says though, you do get used to it very quickly. I never forget they're thrrr but it's started to feel normal.
I can't remember what biscuits taste like

Eighteen days in and finally seeing tiiiiiny movements
Re: Emma in braces
Four weeks down, first adjustment today. Wow, that was painful! Dentist was really happy with the progress so far, she says my arch is opening up really well. Yay! Wire change, although I think it's the same size again.
