8 weeks post lower BSSO forward still burning pain
So it's been eight weeks. I still can't put on lipstick eat different kinds of food or talk for very long without my lip and chin burning. Some of the areas on one side seem to be a little bit less abnormal to touch but that's about the only change toward normal to this point. I could deal with numbness just don't like the abnormal pins needles that burn. Hope this stops soon.

Hi CandyApple, that does sound unpleasant. I had a lot of burning and stinging in my chin but I think it had more or less gone away by then. I don't think 8 weeks is unusual to still be feeling your nerves coming back to life...I always figured unpleasant feeling is better than no feeling at all. If it is really bothering you, it sounds like something that could be answered by a quick phone call to the surgeon.

Thanks for the reply Jamie.. going on 10 weeks now still burning and lower lip feels like an ice cube at time. I can't smile because it feels so cold and tight. Im getting shooting pains also. I don't know what could be going on. I did have an infection in the bone graft part of my surgery that was removed 2 days ago. so not going to be getting an implant there. I am over 40 but don't know if that is why its lasting this long.

Hi CandyApple, last year I had significant nerve trauma while having my wisdom teeth out. What you are describing is exactly what I was feeling. It took about 4 months or so for the icy cold feeling to start going away, but even a year later, if my bottom lip was touched, it sent little shocks straight into one of my lower teeth. I also found that if I talked for a long time, my lower lip would start to seize up, get stiff, and made talking really hard. That also went away after about 4 months. I just had double jaw surgery 6.5 weeks ago so I'm back to square one with the nerve issues, but more widespread, hooray!
My surgeon recommended I start taking vitamin B12 supplements, apparently that helps with nerve healing. Maybe it would help speed your healing along.

Re: 8 weeks post lower BSSO forward still burning pain
Hello again,,,Thanks for the reply. Tomorrow is 11 weeks for me and I am happy to say that over the last couple days my pain level has decreased. I am hoping this is a good thing and it will continue. I think the pain was apexing over the last 3 weeks because it has been worse then all the other weeks. But now it is finally less painful to eat and less painful in general. I have not tried to put on lip stick yet and will wait until I know its not going to burn like fire.littlebird wrote:Hi CandyApple, last year I had significant nerve trauma while having my wisdom teeth out. Little bird we must be really brave to do this twice.. I too had a nerve injury before this jaw surgery from a molar being extracted and an implant hitting the nerve. I have been taking B12 religiously along with Acetyl L Carnitine 3000mm a day Vit D and E and B6 complex. I also heard St Johns wart helps but have not tried it. I think as long as your nerve is intact and they told you things are good you will heal in time just like you did the first time. I really appreciate your reply because it gave me some hope and now the pain really is starting to decrease. I will give more updates on the burning on this thread if any others are going through this.
