Question about new braces/applications

#1 Post by Doodle2 »

Hi. I am 40, gulp, and I got braces 3 weeks ago, ceramic on top, metal on bottom. I did have 3 baby teeth extracted a few days before getting the braces. My teeth were straight before, but the baby teeth had changed my bite. We're also hoping the braces will help with terrible tmj problems. My question is, when I got my braces, my orthodontist put them on the back of the bottom w/ power chains, but he didn't put braces on the front bottom teeth. I guess I was overwhelmed with the whole getting braces thing that I didn't ask why. Did anyone else have to start with braces on the back and later add the front? Thanks!

I did, the first time round, when they had to move my molars and premolars backwards to make more space for my front teeth to align. If your bite is off, chances are your upper teeth could hit the lower braces, so maybe they're planning to work around that?
