Bite keeps slipping back?

#1 Post by EntrancedBoar91 »

Hello all. I have been in braces for almost 2 years. I had class 2 deep bite. My teeth have been stubborn but my bite is almost where it should be.

Ortho had me change to only using class 2 elastics at night recently. I have noticed that by the end of the day, after not wearing elastics, my lower jaw has slid significantly back. The main reason I got braces was to fix my bite but it seems like that is just not going to happen. Ortho has been talking about getting me out of braces and seems to be pushing me to just give up.

Has anyone had their bite not cooperate? Is it possible my ortho is doing something wrong? Of course I will speak with my ortho about all this when I see him next but I would like opinions of others who have been "in the trenches"! Thanks :)

I have a class 2 deep bite as well and yes, I had noticed my bite relapsing when I take off my elastics to eat and brush my teeth. I was told to wear my elastics 24/7 and take them out only when eating and brushing - which ends up to about only 20 to 21 hours wear daily.

My ortho is currently working on fixing my midline and the right side of my bite which has been stubborn. They would shift to the desired position and then shift back when the elastics are out. I resorted to eating with my elastics in as well and that seemed to have "stabilised" the bite but my midline is still constantly relapsing. :?

Perhaps ask your ortho about full time elastics wear and see if that would help?
