Can´t open my mouth!

#1 Post by teinastelpa »

Hi guys! My ortho is correcting my bite and I have difficulties opening my mouth just to eat! I clench my teeth in my sleep and that doesn´t help...but it´s more on one side than the other. Has anyone else had this problem? Starting to feel like a freak here... :?

Teeth Clenching

#3 Post by dafdesign »

Hi Lucyloop! I've only had braces for about 3 months. I started having a sharp, throbbing pain in my upper molar (that doesn't have a bracket on it). Over a couple of days, the pain became more generalized, and now it's mostly in my jaw and under my ear. I'm pretty sure I've been clenching my teeth at night (and I KNOW I've been drooling!). I called my ortho today after seeing my regular dentist who ruled out cavity, root iritation, etc. The ortho is going to give me a "splint" to wear at night watching TV and sleeping to try and take the pressure off. I'm guessing that's probably what you're experiencing too. I'd talk to your ortho and ask him/her about it. According to my doc, it will go away....

Good luck and hang in there!!!

Linda

I've had this problem for some time. My jaw used to click alot and then after a horrible cold with alot of coughing my mouth wouldn't open. After awhile it got a little better but it never opens all the way any more. Then I started to experience pain and a grinding sound in my jaw on the left side. Now I'm wearing a spling for 4 or so months and once my jaw is in better shape I'll be getting braces to correct my crowding and bite, and hopefully I'll be rid of my TMJ problem.
