I had SARPE about 7 months ago and got my braces on about 4 months ago and I still have a funny feeling in my 2 front teeth from the surgery so I cant bite and rip food if that makes sense. Like biting into a breadroll then ripping off a bite - that is impossible and give me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it! If i do have a sandwich or something i normally break off a bite sized peice and eat it that way. Chewing isnt really the issue, its biting and ripping food that is hard ( I sound like an animal  )

I pretty much eat anything I want. I am about 5 weeks in and I didn’t do the soft food diet after getting braces or after my first adjustment. I went right back to eating normally. :soremouth: It was uncomfortable but I survived. I don’t really bite into anything but I never really did. I’m a picker. I have traded my favorite bagels with croissants in the morning and that works for me. I have cut back on my snacking but I still enjoy a taffy or caramel here and there but I suck it and I only have one.

I really miss crusty, granary bread. But other than that, I've largely been eating the same things as I did before. Thought I was never going to manage pizza again, but had some last week with no problems... well, apart from probably looking pretty gross while I was eating it (I don't think I'll try any in company for a while yet)!

I actually seem to be eating more since I've had the braces on, which is disappointing - so much for the 'braces diet'! But that could just be with it being early days, and feeling the need to 'treat myself' a lot 8)

I miss hard sourdough pretzels....nothing goes with a cold beer like hard pretzels. Total bummer!

I miss chocolates, candies, jelly beans, ruffles and lays, popcorn, corn on the cob, curry and most importantly WINE!! I'm having the ceramics. Wine is going to stain my ligs badly!

It's not so much the foods that I miss, but the way I used to eat them. I've been cutting corn off the cob, shredding chicken wings and ribs, and cutting up pizza and crusty sandwhiches like some sort of lunatic. I have to eat my favorite Jalapeno Popper Doritos so carefully I look like my dog eating peanut butter. Don't even think about having the spinach dip at a party...it'll wrap around your braces like some kind of alien.

And let's not overlook the mind-numbing rinsing, flossing, brushing, mouthwashing ritual. Oh, my bad, that's another thread. I am s-o-o looking forward to joining the Naked Tooth forum. No, really.

I miss Fiber One bars...I loved those things. And I also miss carelessly biting into hard fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots. And walnuts! I still eat popcorn and pretty much everything else! Just very carefully!

I miss eating carrot sticks and Doritos (although I still sneak a few here and there!!!, and I sneak popcorn too!!! Chewing too many can mess with the cement in my back brackets). Mostly I miss nuts...I'm dieting right now and I'd love to have a handful of smoked almonds or something. Mm. And come summer I will totally miss corn on the cob.
