Re: Dom's Story

Thanks for the concern, kellby and Elizabeth! :)

Happy to report that I didn't damage them. My ortho looked at them and said I put the wires back in fine and he didn't need to do anything to the wires. He said it was good I came in to check though. He did find one of my ligatures on a bottom bracket had half come off, which I noticed myself from the start and thought it was meant to be like that. You might be able to notice which one on the photos, it's the 2nd in on the right of the photo (hard to see at this size, though). And he replaced my ligatures for free, which was great! Lovely and clear again :D

Oh, and I asked him what technically is wrong with my teeth. He says I have midline shift (which was obvious to me already), a slight overjet and a fair overbite. All will be fixed by the end :D I'll aim to take some photos to specifically show this next time.

Here my 2 Weeks:

ImageImageImageImage

I'm not sure I see much difference in the photos, though I think it's more obvious if you look at the wire. You might be able to see some slight movement in the bottoms, but unfortunately it's difficult to tell with my photos as I can never get the angles perfectly the same each time. Hopefully the photos will benefit somewhat anyway! I think I'll have slightly slow movement to begin with. My ortho did say that the maximum teeth can move through either rotation or movement is 1mm per month, so I should probably expect more obvious results nearer my first adjustment :)

hey Dom :) , your teeth are looking good. i can definitely see some minor changes especially on the lower arch. you are going to be amazed at the changes over the coming weeks. in the beginning, i saw more changes in front of the mirror than were showing in the pics as i could never get the pic in the same angle all the time.

Hi Dom,

You have clearly had some movement in your first two weeks; your upper wire is more level and your lower front teeth are definitely more aligned. Congratulations and no doubt your good progress will continue.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad some movement is visible :)

kellyb, I haven't got a Waterpk, no. I was considering it, but after talking with my dentist, hygienist, and orthodontist, they all say it is not a floss replacement, regardless of how it's marketed. It will not clean the plaque between the teeth, so I thought it was quite pointless. I see the benefits of it for cleaning the brackets, but I'm not spending that much just to do that when I'm not having any problems cleaning them without it. If it was a floss replacement, then yes I would definitely have got it.

If that's not an issue to you, though, I was going to get the Ultra WP-100 (may as well get the best!), though it does require a normal power socket, and therefore is unsuitable for bathrooms in the UK. I don't have a shaver socket in my bathroom so it didn't make any difference which one I got as I couldn't use it in there anyway, but if you do then you could get the Nɑno WP-250 instead.

thanks Dom :D . i will continue to floss but was just looking at the waterpik as an addition to my routine :-* . they are very pricey though. i had a look in boots earlier and saw one for about £46. don't know if it is worth it. they also have a simple portable one for about £16.

i am also in the uk and have no power socket in my bathroom :(

Hey Dom, great movement there. I am hoping to see some movement soon as well. for now its just tightness and occasional cracking sound, so I know something is going on.

Thanks! :D Congrats on 11 and 1 weeks, that's great! I was scared before I took the plunge too, particularly with having to have extractions. I'm glad I did though! I can't wait to see some serious movement.

Hey! Sorry for the delay in updating, I've been really busy lately and haven't got round to processing the pictures! I've done them for you now :) Oh, and please tell me how you get on with the Waterpik :) (I'll probably see in your thread anyway, and I hope to try and post there again soon!)

Here's my 3 Weeks. I'm not too sure there's much visible progress, especially the uppers; I barely see any difference with them! But I can happily say that I believe my 4 Weeks photos are going to be better! I can see visible difference in the mirror compared to these photos, even one of the upper ones I can see a bit of a gap forming (in fact, the tooth in question might be slightly noticeable in the tops pic; it's the second in on the right). And my teeth are feeling achey today, hehe. Here's hoping the difference will be visible in the photos I take tomorrow.

ImageImageImage

Be wary of the angle difference, particularly in the upper photo. I managed to take it much further beneath. In fact, the angles in all the photos are different and can be a bit deceiving for showing actual differences. Grr, the difficulty of taking photos of your teeth at these sort of angles!

In other news: one of the wires on the right, for some reason, has decided to start cutting into my cheek really badly. It's quite nasty! I have a big wire shaped dent in my cheek. It's weird because the wire seems to now sit in it, and when I open my mouth there's a bit of resistance in my cheek and then it suddenly pops out — not very nice! I hope it's able to heal up soon. I've tried wax, and it has helped a bit, but keeping it in long enough for it to heal is the difficulty!

Oh, and on occasion I've noticed a couple of ligatures half come off, but I've quite easily (and satisfyingly) put them back on with a hook (it's actually a metal pick thing, similar to what they use in the dentist to scrape your teeth!). It's nice feeling the sudden tightness again when I slip the ligature back around the bracket.

I'll try and update with my 4 Weeks sooner this time! I'm looking forward to the photos. I hope they'll be good!

Oh Dom, forgot to mention, the waterpik and i are having lots of fun. still making a mess with water everywhere though there has been some improvement. i had ordered it from amazon US as even with shipping and handling, it was cheaper than buying it here in the UK. It arrived in less than a week.

Despite my little water incidents, my mouth do feel alot cleaner after using it. i got the SPAMTRONIC SPAMSONIC SPAMONAIDE SPAMSTER SPAM SPAMINATOR Oral Irrigator EW-DJ10-A. it is a portable one.

Quick update as promised! Here's my 4 Weeks!

ImageImageImageImage

I'm surprised there's not that much of a visible change as I was expecting in the pictures from looking in the mirror. Still, I can definitely see a gap forming on the 2nd in on the upper left of the photo. Looking back, I can see it was overlapping the 1st tooth before, and now it barely is!

I might do a 5 Weeks, though it's just 4 days before my first adjustment, so I may just wait till then to put up new pictures.

Oh, and I managed to use wax on the wire that was cutting my cheek. I made it secure around the two brackets at each end and then left it in overnight. By the morning my cheek was totally healed!

Good to hear! I think I'm managing fine without one, so I'll save my money for now :) Did ordering it from USA cause any issues with the plug?
