Brand new

Hello All!!

I'm brand new to the club, I just received my spacers today, not to bad it just feels like a piece or meat in my teeth will see how I feel tomorrow. My bday is Friday August 18th, I have to admit I'm a bit excited. I've thought about braces for a while and I'm finally going through with it. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Trina,

I never did the spacers bit, but most people who do seem to think it's the worst part about braces.

Good luck for 18 August, at least you'll have the weekend to start getting used to them.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I am on day 5 of my spacers and I will tell you that day two and three are the worst. Now I would say that there is pressure that is uncomfortable, but nowhere near as painful as they were. I didn't have to take any painkillers today either, so that is a huge improvement!

Best of luck on your braces journey, I look forward to updates!

It's now on day 3 with my spacers and I spoke way too soon about them. It's very hard for me to eat right now. I only have spacers on the top teeth (thank god for small miracles) because on my bottom teeth I have a crown on one side and a bridge on the other. I actually tried to eat a hotdog last night b/c the pain wasn’t to bad. Bad idea! I could barley chew the hotdog by its self. How does saltwater help? I'm a bit afraid that something is going to happen to my bridge or my crown. The Ortho assured me that everything will move but I still have this weird feeling. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Talk with you guys soon.

Hi Trina,

Yes definitly listen to Karen. Saltwater HELPS. I've had my ligs for about 11 days. It wasn't that bad for me. Only when I chewed. I was just putting up with the soreness. I started rinsing at Karen's suggestion and the soreness is now gone. It's truly amazing. I'm sure part of it is that the space is being created and my mouth is getting used to them but really the next day after my first rinse my mouth felt so much better. Good Luck! :D
