New to Invisalign..back of aligner rubbing tongue. It hurts!

#1 Post by stephb11 »

I just got my first set of aligners yesterday. On the bottom aligner, the back edge feels like it's sticking out a bit. The underside of my tongue is killing b/c it butts up against the edge at rest and every time I talk. It's being scraped raw. Is there anything I can do about this or am I stuck? I have to have this set for four weeks to start and am moving to two weeks per aligner after that. I can't imagine being this uncomfortable for four weeks!

I dont have my invisalign yet but I have read that you take a nail file and file down the rough edges. Also, you can purchase orthodontist wax and put that on to alleviate the rough edges but I would recommend filing it with a nail file and see how that goes

Im in a good position to help with this ? as I had the exact same problem if its what I think it is. On my trays its just the bottom right hand side that sticks out, I think because it covers a low lying wisdom tooth so after a couple of uncomfortable days I made the decision to locate where the problem was and deal with it, I did not consult the ortho I just did it. What I ended up doing was cliping off about 2mm with a pair of nail clippers then rubbing the area with some fine sandpaper and after that everything was fine and I continue to do it on all my trays (now on 18) so if it is a minor problem like mine then have a go and do not be scared after all u have to be able to deal with the trays for 22 hours a day :)

What type of file are you using? I know that sounds like a dumb question but I tried one today and that area is still rough. I thought I'd filed enough to make a difference but I had to go get some wax. I couldn't take it anymore...the entire underside of my tongue is irritated.

I just got me first tray last week and my tongue got torn up from the bottom tray on the right too, however, by the 3rd day it had settled down. I arranged to get some wax from my ortho but in the end it wasn't necessary.

Well that makes me feel a bit better. I did get some wax yesterday so it's helping calm it down. I hope this doesn't last long!
