I too graduated

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

I too graduated

#1 Post by Eleni »

Woot! I graduated from the Impacted Canine Club to the Naked Tooth Club. Any secret handshake?

Here are my HUGE teeth:

Image

Public Perception:
Just to show how obsessed we are with our own teeth, I walked around work today grinning from ear to ear and NO ONE noticed the braces were off. I had to point it out.

Retainer Question:
And now for those of you who have Hawley retainers, are yours really really tight? My top one gives me a migrane after 10 minutes of wear and in the morning my mouth ached all over when I went to take it out. This normal?

Just beautiful! So white and perfectly shaped!!

I don't think you should get a migrain from your retainer! That is torture!

My daughter's retainer is quite tight, but has never caused her too much discomfort.

You may want to call the ortho to see if he can adjust it a little bit.

They look awesome!

Hey - My coworkers totally noticed because I told them I was getting them off.

My family - who knew they were coming off didn't even look twice. I finally had to say "what about me?". I swear they would have said absolutely NOTHING if I hadn't pushed the subject.

Unbelieveable.

I have an essix retainer and it is not tight. After not wearing it for 3-4 hours (oops) I can tell there is a little tension but that is about it. I would call the ortho!

Excellent smile! I don't think your retainer should be that tight though. Just a snug fit. I would call!

Wow, your teeth look simply amazing!. You must be so, so happy with the results--I know that I would be. Stunning!

I hope that the retainer doesn't continue to give you migraines. My fingers are crossed for you.

Eleni, I just had my braces removed yesterday and also got Hawley retainers; beside difficulty talking and a slight disconfort, no other symptoms. Good luck!

OMG! Thank you ALL for your kind words, now and through out my progress. I look forward to the day you post your pearly whites all straight in a row.

My retainer is more tolerable today. It seemed to follow what my adjustments were like – 3 days of sore achy gums and teeth, and relief starting on the fourth day.

There are 250 co-workers on my floor, and finally today, one person noticed the braces were off!

I've made an appointment in 2 weeks to get my teeth cleaned and see what the dentist can do about white spots on some teeth. He said they are more than likely permanent. I just want to make sure they don’t turn into full blown cavities. So everyone, BRUSH THOSE TEETH, as often as you can.

And a lot of your co-workers need glasses right away. How can they not notice
your fabulous smile. It is even known all over the world, thanks to this forum.

Tell me about it. We are indeed becoming an extinct species. But I will fight,
fight, fight, to preserve our existence, by ... euh ... having braces again probably
next Tuesday.
