Newbie here! :) from Maryland

#1 Post by JoviFan »

Hi everyone ! I've been reading this board on and off for many months now! and am trying to get the nerves to go ahead and get my teeth straightened! I've read many great stories here, and not so great! LOL It's a big decision, but I seem to be getting closer and closer!

:D

btw - anyone have any great orthodontic recommendations in Maryland???? I've seen 2 recently, and both have a slightly different method....HOW DO YOU CHOOSE who to go with????????????????????

 :D

Thanks guys!!! I just had my 2nd consult today.....it's amazing how doctors think differently! LOL Not sure I'm going for any more consults, it'll just make it harder for me to make a decision, too many choices and I go bonkers!!! One thinks that pulling teeth is a must and the other says we probably won't and let's get things started and see how it goes....one was definitely more thorough that the other... price of both is close enough....one does want me to see a periodontal person about my upper gums....oiy - I hate making important decisions!!!! I go for my regular cleaning tomorrow, and am hoping my dentist can help me make the correct decision!

Good to have you on board!

I'm sure your gut will tell you which ortho to choose, let us know how you make your decision.

Congrats!

It's great to know that I can start with a 'conservative' route and try to not pull teeth, and if needed do it farther along in the treatment!!!! I'm sooo glad I found this board - thanks for all the welcomes!!! :D :D

No matter what you wind up doing, that perio appt is a good idea. You need to make sure that the tissue and bone is all healthy before you start with braces.

Personally I think it's good to go the more conservative route, if possible. I tried very hard not to have my teeth extracted and found a doc willing to treat me without extracting. But in the end, I did need the extractions after all. But everyone is different, so that may not be the case with you.

Best of luck and welcome to the board!

Hi! I've been surfing the site for almost an hour now. I'm surprised at how many folks are just recently or just about to get braced! I certainly feel like I'm in good company. :)

I'm in Maryland too - Rockville area. What part are you in? What orthodontist did you decide to go with?

Best of luck - I look forward to following your story.

I missed this first time through. I'm in Maryland too -- Southern Maryland actually, Calvert County.

I'm 42 and 4 months into my treatment. My ortho was originally thinking extraction and braces, but when I said "no way," the alternative we went with is a palate expander and then I'll get braces. I'm thrilled to keep all my teeth. The though of removing perfectly healthy teeth seemded too drastic, especially since no one looking at me even thinks I need braces in the first place.

Good luck, JoviFan. Look forward to following up with you and you too, LynnM. :)
