I used guitar picks (the compact ones, not the regular-sized ones) after day 2 and for the next 3-4 days afterwards. The name on the ones that I got is "Jim Dunlop" and they are Jazz I, II, and III (indicating how blunt the tip of the pick is). My fingers were taking too much of a beating by not having any help to get the aligners out! They worked really well for me especially with getting the aligner over the attachments.
Even though it wasn't planned, I ended up going out to eat like 6 hours after getting the aligners and tried the paper towel trick that I had read about to see how well it worked. It was gross - the restaurant that I was at only had the brown paper towels. Yeah, so anyway, they tasted like sawdust

but eventually got the job done! Haven't needed any help since to try using regular paper towels that I have at home.
