Order of work ? ?

#1 Post by taylorhl25 »

I am new to braces and I have my consult tomorrow and I was just reading up on this site and I just have a quick question:-

Do you have braces fitted straight away, or do you always have to have some kind of treatment in advance, i.e. surgery or some kind of removeable appliance to get your teeth prepared ? ?

It depends entirely on your individual requirements.

If your case is fairly straightforward then all you might need is braces and maybe extractions, but a more complex case might need surgery, an expander or some kind of appliance in addition to the braces.

When you have your consultation tomorrow, your orthodontist will draw up a treatment plan giving you the options available to you, depending on what result you want to acheive.

Let us know how you get on!

Yeah I agree, I think it depends on your specific treatment plan.

I had my consultation and x-rays etc at the ortho, then to my dentist a couple of weeks later to have extractions and a few weeks later went and had the brace fitted.

Good luck with your consultation tomorrow! :D

When I had my consult I had braces put on the same day, I also had spacers installed and was told to come back 2 weeks later, went back two weeks later had spacers removed, molar bands put in and off I went was told 6-8 weeks would be first adjustment and now I'm already 4 months in and at what adjustment number 5 next month!
