Loose bracket already?

#1 Post by TheSarahMonster »

I've had my braces since last Tuesday. I noticed that one of my brackets is loose. It's all the way in the back (first one in from the molar band on the left side). I don't know how I broke it off. The bracket itself isn't broken, but the adhesive seal broke. I haven't been eating anything hard at all. I can't even chew (my back teeth don't meet). Is is possible to break a bracket off eating applesauce or soup? I could have knoked it loose while flossing or using an interdental brush, but I'm really gentle. My 1st adjustment isn't until Feb. 20th. Should I call my ortho and let her know. I'm worried she'll be mad. She just did all that work to put them on and I broke them already. It's a pain to take the wire off and glue the bracket back I know so I don't even know if I can get it fixed until my next adjustment. Will that increase my treatment time?

TheSarahMonster: Call your ortho as soon as you can I'm sure they will have no problem bringing you in to have the bracket re-glued. I've seem many postings on here where the bracket had come off and the person called there ortho and went back in to have it re-glued. Things happen and I'm fortunate that it hasn't happened to me just yet *Knocks on wood* Anyways just give your ortho a call I'm sure she won't get mad at you. However if I was your orthodontist I would get mad if you waited until your adjustment!

I'm sort of an "expert" at having brackets come loose. LOL! Call your ortho, let them know about the bracket. Some brackets can come off very simply, sometimes a bracket will come off as the teeth are being repositioned. Other times, food will displace a bracket.

My first adjustment is Feb 22, I've knocked off a certain bracket a few times, even knocked off a band with bracket! My ortho isn't concerned with the one bracket falling off yet again, says it can wait til my adjustment. The band and bracked DID get reattached!

I have had some great experience in the bracket popping off department. When I was first braced all but two brackets popped off within 4 hours.

There can be many reasons why one hasn't stuck properly. Such as bad cement, tooth placement of the bracket, whitening gel, teeth adjusting to new pressure etc..

Don't worry about hurting your orthos feelings. Popped off brackets are all apart of their job.

Best of luck!

It's fixed. I called her today and she said to come in. I went during my lunch hour (took a long lunch since it takes 35-40 minutes to get there). It took about 10 minutes to fix it. She said it probably didn't cure right....
